Frequently asked questions
How long does it take?
Most people complete the entire process in under 15 minutes. Once you complete our guided questions, your draft is ready almost instantly.
Do I need writing experience?
Not at all. Everlight does the writing for you, based on the details you share. You'll have a professionally-written tribute without struggling to find the right words or flow.
Can I edit the obituary after it's written?
Absolutely. You can request revisions directly inside Everlight when the draft is ready. After that, you can copy, download, or receive an email with the tribute which is yours to keep, change, and use however you wish.
What if I need to pause?
Take all the time you need. Your browser will cache the progress, and you can return later when you're ready to continue.
How is this different than an obituary template?
Free online obituary writers use templates to write an obituary for you. Our approach uses a specially trained AI writer to take your inputs to craft a personalized, unique tribute for your loved one.
Why not just write it myself?
Our guided approach makes the task easier, ensuring you don't miss important elements. We then take the burden off of you by crafting the words and flow for a personalized outcome.
Is there a word limit?
You can specify any length requirements you have. If you're unsure, we'll create a standard-length obituary suitable for most publications.

- Your contact details: your name and email address, so we can deliver the obituary and communicate with you about your order.
- Details about the person being memorialized: the biographical information you enter — names, dates and places, life details, family and relationships, tone preferences, and, if you choose to provide it, cause of passing. This may include personal data about the deceased and about living individuals (for example, surviving family members) that you choose to include.
- Revision requests: the messages you send when refining your draft in the chat.

While you complete the intake questions, your progress is saved in your browser’s local storage on your own device. This stays on your device and is not sent to us until you submit the questionnaire.Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We and our providers use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Service, keep it secure, and remember your choices. Cookies can be “session” (deleted when you close your browser) or “persistent” (remaining until they expire or you delete them).
- Strictly necessary / essential. Required to provide the Service you request and to keep it secure — for example, cookies set by Stripe on the checkout page to process payment and prevent fraud. Without these, services you ask for cannot be provided.
- Cookie-consent (notice acceptance). Records your cookie choices on our marketing website so we don’t ask again.
- Functionality. Remember choices you make, such as your saved intake progress, to give you a smoother experience.
On our marketing website (everlight.life), we use a cookie-consent tool; only strictly-necessary cookies load by default, and anything beyond that is used only with your express consent. You can change your opt-out preferences at any time through the consent banner, and you can also set your browser to refuse cookies — though some parts of the Service may then not function.
How We Use Your Information
- To generate an obituary draft from the details you submit.
- To let you review and refine that draft through the revision chat, and to produce the final formatted text and PDF.
- To deliver your obituary and send transactional emails (your access link, a reminder if you haven’t finished, and the final delivery).
- To process your payment and provide customer support.
- To operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Service, and to comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your information to send marketing or promotional emails unless you have separately asked us to.How Your Information Is Processed and Shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers we rely on to run the Service, and only as needed to provide it:
- Anthropic — the details you submit and your revision messages are sent to Anthropic’s API (Claude) to generate and review your obituary draft. This content is processed to provide the Service and is not used to train AI models.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Supabase — secure database and file storage for your submission and generated PDF.
- Resend — sending the transactional emails described above.
- Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
These providers process information on our behalf under their own terms and security commitments. We may also disclose information:
- Business transfers — if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred; we will provide notice before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
- Law enforcement / legal requirements — where required by law or valid requests by public authorities, or where we believe in good faith it is necessary to comply with the law, protect our rights or the safety of others, or prevent wrongdoing.Data Retention
- Paid orders: your obituary and its PDF are stored so you can access them through your private link. That link remains active for 7 days after purchase.
- Submissions you complete but don’t purchase: if you finish the questions and reach checkout but do not buy, the submission saved on our servers is deleted after 30 days. (If you leave before finishing the questions, your entries stay in your browser and are never sent to us — see “On-device draft saving.”)
- We retain limited order, payment, and usage records as needed for accounting, tax, security, and legal compliance.International Transfer
Your information may be processed and stored on computers located outside your state, province, or country, where data-protection laws may differ. By submitting your information, you agree to that transfer. We take steps reasonably necessary to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. No Accounts

California residents have specific rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Terms and conditions
Last updated: July 8, 2026These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of Everlight — our marketing website at https://everlight.life and our application at https://app.everlight.life (together, the “Service”) — operated by Upkart LLC (“Everlight,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By using the Service or completing a purchase, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.Acknowledgment
These Terms set out the rights and obligations of all users of the Service, and your access is conditioned on your acceptance of them and of our Privacy Policy. You represent that you are at least 18 years old; the Service is not permitted for those under 18. Please read our Privacy Policy carefully before using the Service. The Service
Everlight helps you create an obituary by collecting details about the person being memorialized and using artificial intelligence to generate a draft you can review and refine. After you finalize, we deliver the obituary as text and a formatted PDF, both by email and on your private access page. Everlight does not require you to create an account; access is provided through a private link we email to you.Pricing and Payment
- Standard — $20 (one-time): includes an initial draft and up to three rounds of revisions in the chat.
- Unlimited — $30 (one-time): includes an initial draft and unlimited revision rounds.
Prices are in U.S. dollars and are charged once per order. Payment is processed by Stripe; by purchasing, you agree to Stripe’s terms. You are responsible for any applicable taxes.Revisions and Delivery
Revisions are made through the chat and are limited to editing the obituary itself. Your private access link remains active for 7 days after purchase. If you have not finalized your obituary within that window, we may automatically finalize the most recent draft and email it to you so that your purchase is delivered before the link expires.Refunds
All sales are final because each obituary is a custom, made-to-order digital product, except in the limited circumstances described in our Refund Policy.Your Responsibilities
- You confirm that you are at least 18 years old and that the information you provide is accurate and lawful to share, including any personal information about the deceased or about living individuals you choose to name.

Drafts are generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence based on the details you submit. While we take care to produce a respectful, accurate result, AI-generated text may contain errors, omissions, or wording that does not fit your intent. The Service does not provide legal, financial, or professional advice.Intellectual Property
You retain ownership of the information you submit and of the final obituary produced for you, and you are free to use and share it. Refund policy
Last updated: July 8, 2026Everlight creates a custom, made-to-order obituary generated from the details you provide and delivered digitally. Because each obituary is bespoke and delivered on demand, all sales are final and we do not offer returns, except in the limited cases below. When you’re eligible for a refund
You’re eligible for a full refund if a technical problem on our end prevented us from delivering the service — for example, the draft could not be generated, or you were never able to open it to review and revise. Our records confirm these situations. You may still have received an emailed copy of the draft; that does not affect your eligibility if you were unable to review and revise it as intended. We also refund accidental duplicate charges. If you ran into another technical problem that stopped you from using the service, contact us and we’ll review it.When refunds are not available
- Dissatisfaction with the wording, tone, or style. Every order includes at least three rounds of revisions (unlimited on the Unlimited plan), and the final text is yours to edit freely — subjective dissatisfaction isn’t a basis for a refund.
- Requests after you’ve reviewed and/or finalized your obituary.
- Issues caused by inaccurate or incomplete information provided at intake.
- Change of mind after the service has been delivered. How to request a refund
Email [email protected] within 7 days of purchase with the name on the order and the email you used. We’ll respond within 3 business days. Approved refunds go to your original payment method via Stripe, typically within 5–10 business days.Payment disputes
If you’re considering a chargeback, please contact us first — we can usually resolve things faster directly.Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; the “Last updated” date above reflects the latest version.Contact us
